How to Stay Fresh and Energized Even with Less Sleep

Generally, we need 8 hours of sleep to keep our performance at the best level throughout the day. But some have little sleep, just fine. Such short sleepers are physically fit and usually, it is hereditary.

Now let's know some tips to stay fresh all day even with less sleep:

1. If you have a habit of exercising or walking in the morning, do not skip it. And if you don't have such a habit, then try to at least do light exercise. Exercise raises your body temperature and helps release essential hormones and endorphins, which help boost your body's energy.

2. Bathe with cold water if it is not winter. And use relatively less hot water during winter. Bathing in cold water increases oxygen supply to the brain, thus keeping the brain in good functioning. It feels much fresher and the logic of thinking is correct.

3. Prepare breakfast. Eat healthy food. Avoid sweet foods, more so sweet fruits—bananas. Take as little sugar as possible. Can take cornflakes, and toast but not rice or khichdi. Milk or sour curd, cheese can be taken. They will give you a feeling of fullness but not fatigue. A handful of nuts and a bowl of fresh vegetable salad can be taken.

4. Do not drink tea/coffee repeatedly to go to sleep or go for 2/3 cups of tea/coffee at a time, this may induce more fatigue rather than go to sleep. A cup of tea/coffee every 4 hours is more than enough. Or you can eat a piece of dark chocolate. But whatever you eat should not be too sweet. It's better if you can eat without sugar at all; if that is not possible, eat with very little sweetness.

5. Listen to fast-beat music on the way to the office or class. Music increases brain waves, which stimulate the nervous system.

6. If possible, schedule important meetings or tasks early in the day. If that is absolutely not possible, take a half-hour rest after working for a few hours before starting the next part of the day.

7. Eat protein-rich, low-fat food at lunchtime. Proteins provide the brain with amino acids that enhance focus on tasks.

8. Walk as much as possible instead of sitting in the chair continuously. Bring your own food rather than ordering. Meet your friends or people at work personally. Rather use stairs than elevators.

9. Do some simple breathing when you are extremely exhausted. Take a long breath and hold it for 3 seconds, then slowly release. This will generate extra energy in the brain.

10. Fruit juice, work in bright light, and take a small walk at the end of the day.

If you are busy with the job, do take care that working should not become a daily routine even if you sleep less than 2/1 day. If you don't sleep at night by chatting unnecessarily on Facebook, then it will affect the day's work. Sleeping less than what the body wants, is absolutely not right. Less sleep, more depression; the logic of thinking is not right; memory decreases; mood becomes irritable; immune system gets damaged. Try to go to bed at the same time daily, and wake up at the same time.

Stay well!
